Episode 85: SAF3

Did you know that Lundgren starred in a syndicated television show back in 2013? Yeah, I imagine that he’s forgotten it, but that didn’t stop us from trudging through the entire ill-fated season! This month we’re begrudgingly going back into the world of television and discussing the forgotten syndicated TV soap opera, SAF3! Premiering in the Fall of 2013, SAF3 might have seemed like a relatively wise career move to Dolph Lundgren at the onset… Yet when the producers of BAYWATCH are running the show, the writing was on the wall well before this conceit even lifted off… In this 20-episode series, Dolph plays John Eriksson, the leader of SAF3 — a division of the Malibu Fire Department who specialize in rescues involving the Sea, Air, and Fire (get it… SAF3?!)! Yes, Dolph gets to be a David Hasselhoff who’s in charge of a bunch of pretty lifeguards, and somehow BAYWATCH seems so much better! Returning to the show to help me discuss this one is Richard Hawes of The DTV Digest! Just how bored and out of place does Dolph seem in this? How does the South Africa scenery do at doubling for California? How much filler and padding is included in this show? And just how dated was this conceit in 2013? Listen in as Richard and I suit up to chat SAF3!
